Endodontics Specialists

Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the morphology, physiology, and pathology of the human dental pulp and periradicular tissues. Endodontists treat diseases of the dental pulp through procedures such as root canal therapy, apicoectomy, retreatment, and pulpotomy.

7,137 endodontists listed on Dental Refer.

Procedures endodontists perform

  • Root Canal Therapy
  • Retreatment
  • Apicoectomy
  • Pulpotomy
  • Cracked Tooth Treatment

When general dentists refer to endodontists

  • Calcified, curved or otherwise complex canal anatomy
  • Retreatment of a previously completed root canal
  • Suspected root fracture or resorption requiring CBCT assessment
  • Persistent pain or apical pathology after initial treatment
  • Cases needing surgical management such as apicoectomy

Indications describe what this specialty treats. They are not treatment advice for any individual patient — that judgement stays with the treating clinician.

What to include with the referral

  • Pre-operative periapical radiographs, and CBCT if already taken
  • Pulp testing results and the presenting symptom history
  • Any prior endodontic treatment on the tooth, with dates
  • The restorative plan, so the specialist knows what the tooth is being saved for

What comes back

A completed endodontic report with radiographs, the canals treated, working lengths and obturation material, plus a note on the restorative timeline — the coronal seal is usually the referring practice’s responsibility, and the report should say when it is safe to proceed.

Dental Refer closes that loop in the record rather than by fax: the specialist report returns against the original referral, so the referring practice can see which cases are still open. Read more about how referrals are transmitted and the HIPAA posture behind it.
