What is Dental Refer?
Dental Refer is a HIPAA-compliant dental referral coordination platform. It connects general dentists with specialists across 153,000+ verified U.S. providers, replacing faxed paper packets with a secure, structured 20-stage workflow from referral draft to closed-loop report-back.
Is Dental Refer HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. PHI is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM envelope encryption and in transit with TLS 1.2+. Every PHI read, write, and attachment access is audited in an immutable, hash-chained log. Role-based access control enforces org isolation server-side. We execute BAAs with covered-entity subscribers on request. See /hipaa for full posture.
How much does Dental Refer cost?
Free for early-adopter offices. Pro is $99/month per office with unlimited referrals, secure messaging, X-ray uploads, analytics, and team accounts. Enterprise pricing is available for multi-location DSOs and group practices with SSO, custom audit-log export, and dedicated support. See /pricing.
Can I refer to specialists who are not yet on the platform?
Yes. Dental Refer includes a fax + email bridge that delivers referrals to specialist offices not yet on the platform, with two-way inbox monitoring for replies. As the recipient office signs up, the referral converts to native digital tracking automatically.
What kinds of files can I attach to a referral?
X-rays (PA, BW, panoramic), CBCT scans, intraoral photos, PDFs, and DICOM images. Max 50 MB per file. All attachments are virus-scanned before they become accessible, stored encrypted at rest in Cloudflare R2, and served via signed URLs with a 15-minute TTL.
How do specialists report back?
Specialists use a structured return-report form with fields for diagnosis, treatment performed, prognosis, follow-up requirements, and free-text clinical notes. The report attaches to the original referral so the referring office has the full case history end-to-end without searching email or fax logs.
Does Dental Refer integrate with my practice management software (PMS)?
Integrations with Open Dental and additional PMS vendors are in active development. Dental Refer also has a webhook-based integration with GoHighLevel (GHL) for offices that use GHL for office automation. Email integration via AWS SES and SMS notifications via Twilio are available today.
How do I sign up?
Visit /register to create an office account. We verify office identity via the NPPES NPI registry and (optionally) office email domain. Most offices are active within 5 minutes; high-volume DSO accounts coordinate onboarding through sales.
